EMILY
Emi Yanagimoto — Tokyo born, based between Dubai and Japan.
For years, I treated myself
like something replaceable.
I started working in Japanese entertainment as a teenager, and I was told to lose ten kilos more times than I can count. I believed every audition I lost was my body's fault. There were months of one bowl of soup a day, and years of eating and purging in secret.
Fitness is what changed it — not because it made me thinner, but because it was the first time I fed my body instead of punishing it. What I had actually been suffering from was never my shape. It was how ordinary it had become to treat myself carelessly.
Today I teach women the thing I needed then: how to build a body, and a relationship with themselves, that does not depend on the number on the scale.
